About
Hi, I’m Reinier, a developer from Groningen
I live in Groningen, here in the north of the Netherlands, and I work here too. It’s more than just a line at the bottom of a contact page. A first meeting is usually a short cycle ride or a brief train journey – not a whole day’s travel. Whether it’s the city, the rest of the province, or the neighbouring provinces of Drenthe and Friesland, everything is close enough for an afternoon spent at your table.
Websites, web applications and mobile apps have been my speciality for years. Most of what I create now is bespoke: booking systems, customer portals, internal tools and dashboards in Laravel, and I also develop the apps iOS and Android. I also build standard websites.
No project here starts with a template or a ten-page proposal. It starts with what the product needs to be able to do. Who will be using it on a daily basis. What tasks it will take off your hands. What it still needs to be able to do in two years’ time. Design and technology follow on from those answers, in that order.
On paper, I’m a one-man software company. In practice, I write the code, design the interface and answer the phone if something goes wrong at four o’clock on a Friday. One of the systems on the work page has 95 tables and 269 documented endpoints.
PHP and WordPress are where my roots lie, and thanks to them I’ve seen hundreds of websites on my screen: the good ones, the bad ones and the ‘who on earth made this?’. That history shapes the way I work today. Easy to maintain. Fast, without you being bothered about it. Built so that someone else can take over, rather than built to keep you tied in.
Outside the region, almost everything runs smoothly online. But in the city, or anywhere else in the north, we might as well be sitting at a table with our laptops open, with the actual screen between us. (This site is my own work. Whether that proves anything, I’m not quite sure yet.)
How I work
- Small by choice.
I’m the only one responsible for keeping track of the whole project in my head. No changing team. No account manager in the middle.
- Honest advice rather than upselling.
If a WordPress site from €1.500 solves your problem, I won’t try to sell you a bespoke site from €15.000. Long-term clients are worth more to me than a single sky-high invoice.
- Plain language.
You shouldn’t need a technical dictionary to keep track of your own project. I’ll explain the options in terms of what they mean for your business.
- Modern, but not trendy.
I’ll stick with the current, tried-and-tested technology and avoid the hype, which might otherwise mean my project is no longer maintainable in two years’ time.
Would you like to know whether we could work well together?
A quick phone call sorts things out faster than any other form of communication: whether by phone, video call or even over a cup of coffee in Groningen. Ask for Reinier; there’s no one else you can ask. Tell him what you want to build, and you’ll get a quote, a rough estimate of the completion date and a clear answer as to whether this is a job I should take on.
