Availability and contact details in Groningen and the north

I’m the only one here in Groningen. I handle the design, development and maintenance – that’s the whole business. From your very first meeting, you’ll be dealing with the developer who writes the code, and years later, you’ll still be dealing with me.

Most of it is bespoke software at Laravel: booking systems, client portals, dashboards and the in-house tool that replaces a spreadsheet. I also create websites, handling both the design and the technical side from a single desk, and I develop mobile apps for iOS and Android. There are three things we don’t need to discuss. The OpenSpec builder is free and you don’t need an account to use it; code reviews are charged by the minute; and the programming agents run on your hardware rather than mine.

I’m based in Groningen and travel to the rest. Assen, Leeuwarden, Drachten, Winschoten, Veendam, Hoogezand, Delfzijl: seven places, each and every one worth a visit for an introductory meeting, a work session or a handover, and I don’t have an office in any of them. Groningen is my only base, and finding a parking space nearby is the most tedious part of the job. Drachten is a forty-minute drive via the A7, and Leeuwarden is a little further still. A face-to-face meeting here takes an afternoon, not a whole day.

Further afield, people are working remotely from all over the Netherlands, and that is unlikely to change much. It’s done via code, with brief weekly updates, and in a test environment that you can access yourself. Many clients prefer a video call to making the journey there.

This is how an initial consultation works. Simply send me the form below or an email – a few sentences about where you’re struggling are enough. We’ll meet up at your place in Groningen, or via video call, and for most of the hour I’ll be asking questions: what’s going wrong at the moment, who’s actually going to be using it, and what will happen if you don’t make any changes? By the end, you’ll know whether bespoke software is the right choice, what sort of budget you’re looking at, and roughly how long it will take.

I write code even when my diary seems full. A specification and a proposal come before the first line of code, and it’s often during that period that a gap in my schedule opens up. Minor adjustments and support requests from existing clients are never left at the back of the queue.
